Welcome to Glitter & Chaos
Teaching & learning isn't linear, embrace the chaos and don't be shy to add in a little sparkle
As with many things and events in Maura's life, her path to teaching and training was an unconventional one (if not, a chaotic one).

While pursuing a BA in German and Psychology at the University of Alberta, Maura was inspired to volunteer at Peer Support and the Edmonton Distress Line.
Training, volunteering, and eventually working for both organizaitons transformed Maura's life.
The foundations of her work and training philosophy came from very same the fundamental principles of crisis management that she learned at the Distress Line: empathy, non-judgement, being geniune, empowering, assertive and resilience.

From there, Maura took on a variety of roles from Volunteer Manager, to Make up Artist, to Research Coordinator, Event Planner to Services Manager and finally as Manager, Residence Education at Queen's University. (Again, that unconventional path).

Within each role, Maura undertook various duties as a trainer and educator, whether training Distress Line volunteers, or teaching clients how to best create a smokey eye, or building training programs for student staff on campus. At every role, Maura sought opportunties to learn and train.

Finding joy, excitement, and inspiration in training, led Maura to pursue her Professional Masters in Education at Queen's University.

Welcome to her blog, filled with reflections and musings as she navigates her courses.

Take care!
Always.
